About Axel

146 words

Axel was born on a dark, stormy night in the year 1998, Anno Domini. Or perhaps it was noon, with merely a drizzle and a gentle breeze. He can't remember. In any case, he quickly found himself engrossed by stories and the written word. "When I grow up," he said, chewing on some rather-but-not-entirely tasteless worms found in the sand, "I want to be a dragon!"

When he grew up just enough to realize the difficulties involved in attaining this profession, he settled for the next best thing and became a writer.

He wrote this and that, that and this, and some other things. Until he finally wrote a fantasy heist set in ancient Rome. This piqued the interest of an American publisher, meaning he had to add translation to his repertoire. The Treasure of Juno Moneta will be published in Swedish and English in 2024.

Axel Kamne

Addicted to history, Axel spends his days reading documents from lost times. Not only does this make him curse at unreadable eighteenth-century handwriting, but also lets him shamelessly steal ideas from widely different eras for his writing projects. A fantasy freak since young age, he lives in Sweden with his two sharp-clawed, long-tailed dragons (sometimes referred to as "cats").

His debut novel, The Treasure of Juno Moneta, is an action-packed fantasy heist in ancient Rome. It will be published in Swedish and English in 2024.

  • How do you write?
I usually write on my laptop with full screen, 164% zoom, and the internet turned off. My keyboard is set up with a Dvorak layout (svorak to be exact). This puts less strain on my hands and wrists and keeps people from borrowing my laptop. Sometimes I do first drafts by hand. Then I enjoy the scribbling sound of a fountain pen.
  • Where do you write?
During the summer, I write almost exclusively outdoors. This could be in the hammock or porch swing, depending on mood. (Current mood: morning mist.) Then I enjoy the blazing sun; or the rain, if I can find some shelter. During the winter, I also write outdoors. Then I inhale the ice-cold air and write as fast as I can before my fingers go numb.
  • What genres do you write in?
I predominantly write fantasy. However, I don't feel bound to a specific genre; I'll write anything as long as it offers a great story and characters. In general, genre is a marketing thing and not something that should bother you while writing.
  • What hobbies do you have?
Well, there is writing. And reading. And reading about writing. In the summer I play croquet, nationally and internationally. I also enjoy strategy games like Age of Empires, Warhammer and chess.
